In line with its history of competition with Bombardier, the traditionally airliner-leaning Embraer has jumped into the light jet fray with the Phenom 100 and the slightly larger Phenom 300. The Phenom 100 is classified as a very light jet, but is spacious enough for four passengers and a toilet, and given Embraer's know-how in building robust aircraft for high-utilization airline use, the Phenom family is expected to be a leading contender in the air taxi business. A few Phenom 100s have already left the factory, and the 300 light jet, with more seating and a longer range, should be flying in 2009.
